We have survived another Christmas-Tree-Decoration! I hung the lights and then let the kids do all the decorating.
RuthAnne did very well spacing her ornaments. She even had a little chair so that she could get them up high. Will, did NOT do the hang them all on the same branch trick, but he DID like each one of his in a line around the tree--as seen here.

The Fall Hunt

We had our own little dress-up celebration here at our house last week. The kids picked their "outfits" out of our dress-up clothes and then GrandBob, Nana, Howard, and Betty came and shared dinner with us.

After dinner we had out "Hunt". I took pictures of small things around the house and the kids had to figure out where they were and then they got a small treat and new clue at each location. They had never done this, so it took them a minute to get geared up, but once they figured it out, they were really off!

I love this last picture--it really shows how they play together--RA instructing Will what to do next!

The Pumpkin Patch

Last year we visited this pumpkin patch with Aunty Em, and we missed her this year; but had a GREAT time with Daddy! The corn maze was a big hit and the children enjoyed choosing their own pumpkins.

Three weeks ago after Daddy got home from work, Will asked him to please put his pedals on his bike. (We use this method for bike riding--but not the bike. Daddy just takes the pedals off the smallest bike we've ever found at a yard sale) Will was so excited...

And he did it--his first try! RuthAnne has also been riding since she was 3; however, in her 2 years of riding experience, I can never remember her riding off the pavement. Will, however, has several dirt tracks across our front yard...A very wise man once said that they were raising boys not grass. Here's Nan getting in on the action too!

Will has really gotten into painting. He's quite particular about what he is trying to convey with his work. For instance, he will often come in and explain that this is the water line and this is a drainage ditch and here's the roof--Perhaps we should try switch to a drafting table rather than an easel...And RuthAnne is our photographer. She took this picture of a rainbow last (ah-hem) month sometime--along with 125 more shots! She's all about the camera.

Here is our monthly update!

We will start with my little Will, who is definitely a you-never-know kinda' guy!
And here's our latest excitement..though we haven't gotten in much practice yet RA is already in love with it!

Will is still a bit small. His little legs don't quite reach all the way down, but he got his turn just like RA; and he seemed to enjoy it too. It's a bit harder for Will as he doesn't ride a two-wheeler yet and balance is important on this contraption.

RA took all the rest of these pictures (along with literally 100 more!). She was so proud of them and will be very glad to see some of her handiwork on line.

Here are some images from my recent painting episode! I have FINALLY completed my kitchen project (which I have been working on since, Ah-hem...November)...I believe the pictures below will explain away some of my delayed progress... [before and after pictures soon, I hope!]It's an entire roll! He was running around the house with the end in his hand.
THIS was really all he wanted to do!
We got this gem from Goodwill and RA played with it for at least an hour!Here's Will taking apart the door hardware, which I thought an innocent diversion, until I tried to replace the hardware and it took me A FULL HOUR!!! He REALLY took it apart!
This is what else RA amused herself with...packing up my cans and scattering them throughout the kitchen.
And finally, another innocent diversion (I thought). I gave Will the hammer thinking he would lightly tap the paint closed...you see the result however.

We were cleaning out again today and the children found some pictures. RA pulled this one out and said, "Where did THIS picture of Will come from?" Well, that picture of Will was taken almost 40 years ago!

I'm a little behind...so sorry. We did have my sister's wedding last weekend (Hopefully, pictures will be here SOON!). But here's the closet project. It doesn't seem so dramatic...Here's before...Here's after...but it is a little more change than what you might see realize, because in the before, this was only winter but in the after, I have added almost all my summer and still have some room!
Here's everything I got rid of...a rather largish bag! See? it takes up about 1/3 of the width of the van. Definitely glad I did it!

10:00am and beyond--this is been the rest of our day, as both Will and RA have "the virus" that lots of others around here have. Just a nasty high fever. In light of this, we will forgo our planned birthday supper and dessert until all are feeling better.

We're here! We're having fun. I've rearranged the kids room, my laundry room and my spare room. Done 3 weeks of school with RuthAnne and priced at least half of my consignment sale items (for March). We also took a trip to Biltmore and the Hands on Museum. Right now, RA is in Nashville and having a great time, but Will is REALLY looking for her all the time. I tried to distract him by making cupcakes, but he's already back to missing her.

While singing Zacchaeus last night, I realized that Will has self-corrected his singing of both "Zacchaeus" and "Away in the Manger" (which we sing year-round). It's so sad! I had planned to never tell him what the real words were because his words fit so well, but he must have discovered it on his own.

Up until last night he would sing: "Zacchaeus was a wee little man...lalala...He looked up in the tree. And He said, 'Zacchaeus, don't fall down!'" but not anymore :-( Now he knows that Jesus said to come down out of the tree.

And then there's: "Away in a manger no crib for a bed, the little Lord Jesus lay down his sleepy head". I think Will's right. Why else would you lay down your head?

So fun but so sad that he's growing right up!

The den looked like this because the children had been left to play on their own while I filed and discarded all of my 2009 paper documents. I had just finished this monumental task and sent the kids to play elsewhere while I picked up THIS mess when RuthAnne called me to the kitchen...

We are enjoying our vacation this week at the beach. It is beautiful! We are looking forward to almost 90 degrees tomorrow! Jordan took this pretty picture...I thought it was lovely! We tried out Brookgreen Garden today and here are just a few highlights.

RuthAnne wasn't too excited about the cows because there was a sign saying "The cows may bite". This guy looked like he was out to do just that.

We did get Will out of the Ergo, but most of his visit was spent on Daddy's back...

RuthAnne and I have been memorizing the Shorter Catechism since the beginning of the year. We have stalled on question 18 for the past two weeks, but here is a video of questions 16 and 17. The answers are:

Here are our Dollywood pictures. We LOVE Dollywood--mostly because the children enjoy it so! Here's one of Will's favorite parts of Dollywood-cookies! RuthAnne picked the cookie. It was pink with sprinkles.

That's where we've been most of the last month. There have been some beautiful days and the kids are playing outside more and more. RA will even go out be herself these days. I caught these two playing so sweetly together.

You can hardly see from these small pictures, but the kids are playing in their sprinkler. This sprinkler has little straws that spray everywhere and Will has discovered that he can pick up the straws and get his sister very wet. It was hilarious because I don't think RA ever figured out what was going on!

We've been having so much fun this summer! Below are a few highlights of the last...month (sorry! blogging just isn't my thing it would seem)

Here's our first sprinkler episode of the year. One of the neighbors (or "neighborhoods" as RA says) was watering their garden last night when we strolled by and it got RA to thinking...so we go out the sprinkler last night about 8pm and let the children freeze/play for a few minutes. Will really enjoyed it, but RA was old enough to realize how cold it was!

Here's the fun we had over Memorial Day at the Howell Family Reunion...the tractor was a major highlight!Will seemed to already know what these were, how to drive them, and that he needed a turn just like the rest of the children...
Perhaps he needed a few pointers on how to play in the dirt???
RuthAnne enjoyed herself too, but she was a little more cautious than her brother...
